So you find a dresser with some details and curves, and know it needs a little bit of shine.

Or you’ve been dying to try out a metallic finish but have no idea what product to use to even get started?

Look no further.  I have the solution for you today!

It’s all about that glam metallic look that is so popular today!  Let’s call it “glitter for grown-ups”, also known as Pearl Effects

Today I’m making over this dresser, it was questionable at best when I bought it, but the price was right and it’s a Drexel so I knew it was sturdy and worth the makeover.

Yuck.  The top veneer was peeling off, so I used this tried and true method to get the veneer off, then I primed the top and painted the whole dresser (including the hardware which WOULD NOT come off) in two coats of General Finishes Seagull Gray Milk Paint.  It was already looking 100x better but I wanted to take it up a notch further so on to the Pearl Effects.

Look at the finished result, isn’t that lovely? It’s clean, and classic and won’t go out of style.

Here’s what you need:

220 Grit Sandpaper
Milk Paint (Tutorial Dresser painted in Seagull Gray Milk Paint )
General Finishes Pearl Effects
General Finishes High Performance Top Coat in Flat (or Satin) finish
● Stir stick
Purdy XL Cub Paint Brush
Rub n’ Buff (optional)

It’s really not too complicated either because we are using it as a topcoat. I used a little Pewter Rub N Buff on some of the details just to make them pop a little more.

Here’s the video tutorial…

Here’s another piece that started with a different base color, with the same Champagne Pearl Effects over the top.
