Today I have a really fun, simple project for you.  It’s one of those fool proof projects that turn out really spectacular!  If you follow my Facebook page you may have seen me do this live, but no worries, if you missed it, there’s a replay in this post.

Here’s what you’ll need (affiliate links included where helpful):

  • An old window (note: don’t pay more that $10 for an old window unless it has several panes, or is just super spectacular, otherwise check your local home recycling store because they usually have them cheap!)
  • Sprayway Glass Cleaner (it’s just my favorite and doesn’t have ammonia – which can sometimes hurt a painted finish)
  • Krylon Looking Glass Spray Paint
  • A spray bottle with a 50/50 mix of water and white vinegar
  • Paper towels
  • D-Rings

Clean your window (both sides) really well with Sprayway and paper towels.  Determine which side you want showing, then turn the window over.  We are spraying the backside with spray paint so you can still clean the glass 🙂

Just start spraying the Looking Glass Spray in even passes back and forth over the glass.  It will show up more silver as it dries.  (NOTE: in the video I have the window propped up for demonstration purposes, but you will get drips/runs if you aren’t careful, so you should really spray with the window laying down)

Once you are pretty happy with the coverage, but BEFORE it dries, spray it with a little of the water and vinegar where you want the antiquing to appear.  I like to do it randomly.  Then go back over the whole window with another quick coat of the Looking Glass Spray.  Let it dry and you have a lovely old window mirror!

Apply D-rings on the back with a screwdriver for hanging.  If your window has chippy paint, you can go over it with a clear coat of High Performance Top Coat or Poly Acrylic to seal it and prevent the possibility of chippy lead based paint.  I don’t worry about this too much on wall decor but it’s an option if you need it.

Here’s the video of how I did it,

My favorite thing to do is hang a wreath on the front of it, and you have a great statement piece!

Blessings!
