Hello!
I have a sparkly before and after for you today. A friend called me one day and said a neighbor had put a dresser on the curb. She kindly pulled it into her garage (friends don’t let friends miss a good trash day!), and I went over to pick it up. It looked a little worse for the wear, but it had great shape and potential and was in very good shape structurally.
I shared this sneak peak of the color I mixed up for this piece, it’s fun to play with colors!

The stickers were tough to get off, but nothing Goo Gone and a paint scraper couldn’t handle. NOTE, if you ever use something like Goo Gone (which is an oily cleaner) you must then clean the piece with 50/50 mix of denatured alcohol and water to clean all the residue off. Because the piece was already painted I just make sure I scuff sanded really well with 120 grit sand paper, then cleaned off the dust.
Once I was finally ready to paint, the General Finishes Milk Paint mix I used was one part Persian Blue and four parts Coastal Blue. I just use cleaned out kitchen jars to mix paint. You can even mark proportions on the outside of the jar then just add paint and stir well.
Since this piece had inner drawers, I wanted to have a fun surprise when you open the doors. Glitter was just the thing! Here’s how I did it, and made it really sparkly.
To get an extra sparkle I started with Gold Spray Paint, then used the Gold Glitter Spray. I just love that stuff! I used the same method on the legs and just taped off the lines where I wanted the paint to end.
I chose to use new white ceramic knobs with simple brass screws to play off the gold accents. The white knobs seemed like a nice resting place for the eye, I didn’t want to compete with the glitz and glam.
The nice part about the Glitter spray is that it does not come off on your hands. I thought that would be annoying to always have glitter on your clothes, but this stays put. I just love the happy surprise of the glitter. It sure is a piece that will make you smile. And it came a long way from when I found it on the curb, don’t you think?
