This is what our house looked like last October as we were walking through for the final inspection.  I honestly can’t say there was too much I actually liked about the house at that point.  But I could see it certainly had potential.  We’ve transformed about half of the inside so far, and this summer we’ve been taking the projects outside!!

Last I left you on the exterior progress, I showed my finished garage doors and a few tiny paint swatches.  I admit the garage doors looked a little less than amazing with all that gold paint.  I actually have no idea what the old color is. In some lights the body of the house looked light yellow, but the trim was a nasty gold, flesh tone, peach… I don’t even know. What I did know, was that it had to go.

We’ve never yet had the exterior of a house painted, so the prospect was a little intimidating.  We got several quotes (ranging anywhere from 3k-14k by the way!!). Make sure to get several!

After picking our painter, we taped paint colors to the house. We picked our favorite two and I went to buy samples.  DON’T SKIP THIS STEP!!!!!  The color we thought we liked on the card once painted on the house in a few spots WAS NOT the color we picked!!!  You just don’t know until you actually get a sample. Also don’t overwhelm yourself with a million samples, narrow it down to just a few and pick from there!

Here are the colors we settled on Behr Milk Thistle for the siding and Behr Sandstorm for the trim.  Milk Thistle looks more green in person than this sample here, but see what you think…

Ahhhh, so much better!!!!  It almost doesn’t look like the same house!  Not only is it CLEAN, it’s warm and inviting.  Now that the paint is finished the garage doors make more sense don’t you think??

I built new shutters for the front (I’ll show you how in my next post) and they are simple yet so much more updated than those navy blue ones.

I will be changing the color of my front door soon (again!), and we are still working on the never ending landscaping.  But I sure love the transformation!

We couldn’t have been happier with the guys we hired to do it, so if you need the name of a house painter, let me know!!

I couldn’t resist doing a before/after collage, I really think it looks like a whole new house!  The power of paint is amazing both inside AND out!

Have you painted the exterior of a house before?  Any tips??

Until next time,
Jenni
