distressed black dresser roots and wings furniture (1 of 1).jpg Black and distressed. A classic combo. I’ve been a fan for a long time, and just like the “little black dress” is a classic, I don’t see black furniture going out of style any time soon either.

A client of mine wanted to have these dressers painted to match some furniture she had in her space. They are beautiful pieces, big and HEAVY as all.

First things first they got a good prep and sanding, and then a couple coats of General Finishes Lamp Black Milk Paint. It did take 2-3 coats to get a full black finish, but once I was done with the painting, it was time for them to come to life.

I filmed a new tutorial for you on the whole process. The secret is the topcoat. I also show you how to get a really nice, even finish over a dark paint. This is something people ask me quite often, and it’s easy to do if you know how…

Here’s the piece all finished up. What a pretty dresser. I can’t wait to see it all together in her bedroom, it’s going to be stunning!

See the top?! No streaks, a nice even finish. General Finishes High Performance Topcoat for the win!

Do you love the black distressed finish too? Have any black pieces in your home?

Stay creative!
