I was going to wait until spring to do a whole porch makeover, but we had a warm day and I thought I'd get a jump on the front door. There is still much that needs to be done, but the front door is sporting a new color, and that is progress, right? This is truly a quick and easy makeover that doesn't take much time and can make a big impact on the curb appeal of your house.
I completed another front door makeover at our old house, you can see that post all about changing out the old metal front door to a wood one. This door is aluminum, but has the look of wood. It's been painted several times before - and while I certainly love me some navy blue, I thought our porch needed a bit more color.
This house is currently yellow, so I wanted a color that would compliment the yellow tones - I wanted a light green/blue/gray. I pulled out my General Finishes Milk Paint and got to mixing. The recipe for this lovely color turned out to be: 1/2 c. Persian Blue + 2 tablespoons of Lime Green + 1 tablespoon of Coastal Blue = 😍
This project was part of my 30 Day Paint Challenge over on Facebook, here's the full video tutorial from that day.
This is the first coat as it's drying. The coverage on this color was very good even with the first coat. I just had to finish it up with a quick second coat and it was done!
Here's our Christmas front porch. I love the way the red and aqua play off of one another. In the spring I'll paint the sidelights a pure white and do a few other updates to this space.
Here's the door without the glass in the way. Isn't this a wonderful color - it's such a pretty blue/green. I still think the knocker and door handle may need an update too - but until it warms up a bit, they are just fine.
A quick and easy front door makeover in the books. The whole cost was only about $30 in paint and took about 2 hours to complete. Easy enough to give your front door a makeover with each season almost ;)
Until next time, Happy Painting!!
