Growing up, I was always working with my grandfather on some project or another. And every once and while it was refinishing a piece of furniture.
I decided to go to school for Engineering, (Bear Down Arizona!) because if you asked me what I wanted to do, I would say I wanted to “build stuff”. I wasn’t sure what, but something. I was one of about 5 girls in all of my Engineering classes, but that was okay with me. I was the girl who asked for power tools for Christmas. There was something about it, I just loved. I couldn’t wait to have my own house to try my hand at DIY projects.
Fast forward a few years, and I find myself as a stay- at-home mom with a non-existent decorating budget and a house full of mis-matched, hand-me-down furniture. I thought a coat of paint sure couldn't hurt it so I started giving everything a makeover. And it was FUN! And it looked so much better! I eventually ran out of pieces to refinish for my own home, and Roots & Wings Furniture was born.
Right now my workshop is my basement, and I love reclaiming forgotten pieces of furniture. It’s a great outlet; it’s relaxing to hold a paint brush in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other. It's such a blessing to be able to transform a piece and help turn a client's house into a home one piece of furniture at a time!
I'd love to hear from you!
