I have a quick before and after post for you today. I found this three drawer nightstand at one of my favorite second hand shops, and knew the curves and details would be so much fun to paint up and play with a bit.
Curvy pieces like this just seem like they need to be glammed up a bit, so I painted it first in Seagull Gray Milk Paint. Then I added Champagne Pearl Effects. It instantly gives it an all over metallic look. Somewhere between a silver and pearl. It's truly gorgeous. The nice thing about it too is that it's fancy without being in your face. This finish would be one that would easily dress up any piece of furniture.Read More
If you've seen the last two drawer repair posts, you know this piece has basically been through surgery. Looks can be deceiving. While the outside of this "looks" pretty nice, the top and the inside were a wreck (a duct tape wreck to be precise)!
Once that was cleaned up and repaired, it was time to finally paint and make this piece pretty.
Since this piece seemed to be all about the drawers, I also decided to make the drawers pop with some polka dots! Because, why not!Read More
We're back today with another post on drawer repair. Sometimes you may have a sticky drawer, one that just doesn't open and close as smoothly as you'd like. This can sometimes be a structural issue (we talked about that in the last post), a slide needs to be repaired, the drawer is mis-aligned, etc. But sometimes it simply needs a bit of "grease".
Here are 3 Surprising Tricks to get those drawers running more smoothly, and most of these you already have in your house!Read More
I did it again.
Sometimes you love a finish so much, it needs to be repeated. As soon as I picked up this piece at a my favorite furniture store, I knew exactly what I was going to do with it!
Remember those tables I did in January that started out as this orange pine finish? I worked and re-worked the finish until they turned out just the way I wanted them. Barn wood furniture is rustic, aged, and so popular, BUT a faux barn wood finish is something you can do to just about anything!Read More
The first piece I ever remember refinishing was a picnic table with my grandpa. I always enjoyed helping him on projects around the house, and I remember this particular summer project was refinishing my parent's picnic table. We sanded and sealed, and I do recall it was a lot of work.
With this latest project, I've come full circle. This picnic table was built by my client's dad, he wanted to bring it home and use it in his own backyard. BUT before it was allowed to come home, his wife insisted it be refinished and made to look a little more modern and up to date.Read More
Sometimes a piece of furniture "speaks to you", you can instantly see exactly what color it's supposed to be, how it would look best styled or re-designed.
Other times, it takes a little inspiration to get you going.
I just bought a fantastic buffet. It's very unique and will be a great piece in someone's home, but I just can't quite decide what to do with it yet. So I took to the inter-webs and came up with 9 beautiful ideas for a buffet makeover!! Let's take a look...Read More
One of my favorite parts of refinishing furniture is transforming pieces that are out of style, old, ugly, forgotten (sometimes trashed - literally found in the dumpster) into something new. Pieces that will be used and enjoyed for years to come. Call it furniture redemption.
My other favorite part is transforming pieces that are special to someone and creating new looks and styles that fit their home a little better. That's the case with this makeover. A sweet gal who has been one of my very best clients, coming to every classy yard sale and furniture event we've done, had a special set that needed a little love.Read More
